Mental Health Board
Elgin Township is seeking qualified applicants for the Community Mental Health Board. Interested parties are required to send/submit a “Letter of Interest” to the Township Supervisor, Ken Bruderle.
I. Appointment
Members of the CMH Board are appointed by the Township Supervisor, with the “advice and consent” of the Township Board of Trustees (by majority vote) at an open meeting of the Board.
II. Qualifications: To be considered for membership on the CMH Board, applicants:
A. Must be an Elgin Township resident.
B. Must, as nearly as possible, be representative of interested groups of the community, such as:
• Local health departments
• Medical societies
• Local comprehensive health planning agencies
• Hospital boards
• Lay associations concerned with mental health, developmental disabilities, and substance abuse
• Individuals with professional or lived expertise in mental health, developmental disabilities, and substance abuse
C. When there are gaps in Board duties and qualifications that cannot be filled from the above-stated categories, then other members may be appointed from the general public.
D. One member shall be a member of the Elgin Township Board of Trustees.
III. Disqualifications
A. Any employee of the Department of Human Services (full-time or part-time)
B. Any board member, employee or any other individual receiving compensation from a facility or serviceoperating under contract to the CMH Board.
C. Anyone with any other conflict of interests.
IV. Terms of Office
The terms of office of the initial members of the CMH Board were set as follows:
• 2 members shall be appointed for a term of 2 years,
• 2 members shall be appointed for a term of 3 years,
• 3 members shall be appointed for a term of 4 years.
Any vacancy in office shall be filled for the remainder of the original term.
All new appointments shall be for a term of (4) years.
V. Discussion of Candidates’ Qualifications
Prior to appointment, the qualifications of each candidate may be discussed by the Board of Trustees in aclosed/executive session, under the Open Meetings Act, 5 ILCS 120/2(c)(3).
